Sync and working offline

Papeer saves every change first on your device and right after that on the server. That’s why you write smoothly even on a slow connection, and why you can work without one.

The Saved pill

At the top right there is a pill with the status. Saved means everything you wrote is already in Papeer Cloud. When something is waiting, the pill says so (Waiting to be sent · 2, Offline · 3). Tap it to open Settings → Sync with the details.

The Saved pill in the document header

Without a connection

Keep writing. Changes queue up and are sent as soon as the connection is back. You can open any document you have opened at least once on this device (the others download in the background after start-up). You can see how many documents are on your device in Settings → Sync → This device.

Several devices

Sign in with the same email on your phone and your computer. Changes from one device appear on the other within half a minute. When you edit the same document on two devices at once, Papeer throws nothing away: it keeps the text from the server and saves your version next to it as “Name (conflict …)” — then you choose.

The Sync page

Settings → Sync shows what is saved, what is waiting to be sent (item by item, with Try now or Discard…), the history for 14 days, and the buttons:

Maintenance and errors

When the server is briefly under maintenance, the pill says Maintenance and the app waits on its own. An error stays visible until it’s resolved, always with what you can do.

Google Drive sync

Papeer can also mirror your notes into the Papeer folder in your Google Drive — documents as .md files, attachments as ordinary files. Turn it on in Settings → Storage with the Turn on sync… button. The main storage is always Papeer Cloud; Google Drive is an extra sync you can pause or turn off any time. You can see the progress and any interruption in the same place.
